About McAllenMcAllen is the largest town in Hidalgo County, Texas. McAllen is located at the southern tip of Texas in a semi-tropical paradise, 8 miles from the US/Mexico border and its sister city, Reynosa, Mexico. McAllen was developed in the early 1850's with the arrival of John McAllen in the Rio Grande Valley. The city was incorporated in 1911.McAllen is known as the City of Palms for the thousands of palm trees which shade the city's streets. The Museum of South Texas History, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge and South Texas College are just some of the attractions that might catch your eye which are located near our McAllen Hotels. The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle-National Shrine is also in the vicinity. The McAllen International Airport is just one mile away and the Mexico border and Reynosa are only a quick drive away from the McAllen Hotels. If you are on a shopping spree, than McAllen is the perfect place for you to be. La Plaza Mall is one of the most prosperous preferred shopping center throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico. If you came here to have a good time and enjoy a night out in the city, you must stop by the State Farm Arena. For the bird watching amateurs the World Birding Center is the perfect place for checking out. McAllen is home to the tallest building in the Valley (visible from Mexico) so if you are afraid you might get lost here, you don’t have to worry. At the base of this building is an arch from the old McAllen High School. Also surnamed “The Texas Tropics”, McAllen is a great place to visit, so its population nearly doubles from October to March. |
